Lasting Light is an event circle in Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU) that was started in 2004 by group of students with the intention of recreating a bamboo light festival widely celebrated in Usuki city. The event took place around the fountain of APU and was annually held before it saw its discontinuation after 2011. In 2015, the group was ressurected with new younger members and locals from Usuki co-operating to provide bamboos for free. The main motivation behind this event was for the students of APU to be able to experience the beautiful and colorful festival of lights in the heart of APU itself and to make this festival a global one by bringing locals and international people together. In 2015, it took one and a half month of preparation to set up 1,500 candle-lit bamboos and objets d'art around the fountain and twin towers (of APU).
