History

We originally started from our home where operated for three years before purchasing the present premises in Gordon Avenue, Monte Vista in 1999.
The School has now been running for over 15 years and has undergone various extensions and additions and now includes four classrooms as well as two separate playgrounds, one for he under three year olds and one for the older children.

Little Rascals is fully registered with both the Department of Social Welfare and the City Of Cape Town Tygerberg Administration as a “Place of Care”.

Daily Activities

The teachers follow an interesting and stimulating program. A theme is followed each week and the children are taught a variety of skills such as:
◦Dressing skills
◦Hygienic habits and health care
◦Social graces, morals and manners based on Christian principles.
◦Nursery rhymes, songs, music and movement.
◦Drawing and Painting
◦Shapes, seasons, colors, numbers and the days of the week
◦Physical skills such as cutting with a scissors
◦Large motor and fine motor development
◦Visual and auditory perception skills
◦Language skills

The daily program includes morning ring, music and movement, story ring and discussions on the weekly themes.

There are also a number of learning areas available in each classrooms such as listening area, the book corner, the block area, fantasy corner etc… including a nature and interest table.

The outdoor areas, designed to develop fine muscle and gross motor control and co-ordination, include jungle gyms, sand and water play areas.

It is our policy to prepare your children for the pre-primary schools years that lie ahead, and hence we specifically do not encroach on the pre-primary school course content. We do not use and pre-primary school learning material as the use thereof in these early childhood development years may adversely affect them in the later pre-primary years.

Nursery School teachers

Our Nursery School teachers are all qualified educare teachers with at least an N6 qualification or higher and most of our assistants have all had prior experience with children at other places of care or have a number of years of experience with children at our school.
