You could say that Leather Wise was founded when I made my first belt at the age of 14. Inspired by a family member, I started making belts for friends at school to earn some extra pocket money.

This passion for crafting leather goods grew and, at the age of 16, I started working as a foreman in my brother-in-law’s leather workshop, where I learnt some valuable craftsman skills and techniques. I started Leather Wise as an exhibitor on Green Market Square at the age of 19 and the rest is history.

Nowadays, the Leather Wise workshop is situated on a smallholding close to the scenic Knysna in the Western Cape, South Africa, a town that was known for its leather craft during the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s.

Leather Wise is a brand created with the intention of not only producing beautiful, unique artisan leather goods, but also to create employment and educate the community on this ancient, sustainable craft.

I place a strong focus on using environmentally-conscious vegetable tan leather and creating products that last. All Leather Wise products are hand-stitched with waxed nylon thread, with heavy gauge solid brass hardware accessories, aluminium frames and semi-precious stones on personalised items.
