Thoughts

We love our city and want to help Atlanta compete for people & resources. A thriving contemporary arts scene can be an indicator of overall progress for a city. It’s akin to "waving a flag" notifying the world that Atlanta seeks to attract and is open to unique contemporary thought systems in civic, social & business layers. We wave that flag as hard as we can to attract new unique minds to our city and reduce “mind flight” to other cities.

Gravity Center:

The Goat Farm is a Creative Industrial Complex in West Midtown Atlanta. Our model, designed to attract a dense collection of forward-thinking ventures, has re-positioned an unproductive 19th century factory into one of Atlanta’s largest Centers for vanguard fields, contemporary thought, art & performance. The Goat Farm represents over a quarter of a million square feet of space. 470+ Members, which together employ 130+ people, occupy studios at the Goat Farm and contribute to the social, cultural & economic fabric of the city.

Our model recognizes that consistent vanguard arts programming creates a progressive “Center of Gravity” for many of the city’s thought leaders & their ventures. The Center houses entities in:

• The applied sciences & natural sciences
• New media
• Contemporary movement & dance
• Sound based work
• Architecture & design computation
• Transportation
• Theater
• Nanotechnology
• Engineering
• Cloud/mobile application development
• Industrial design
• Fashion
• Music composition
• 2D & 3D visual art
• Digital products & strategy
• Game design & theory
• Literature
• Animation
• Culinary arts
• Film
• Small manufacturing

The Goat Farm produces & presents over 150 programs annually in classical & contemporary music, traditional and experimental theater, film screenings, literary programs, contemporary dance, contemporary performance, art exhibitions, workshops, seminars & panel discussions.

Primarily exploring experimental and innovative works the Goat Farm is a laboratory where creative risk is nurtured & celebrated. The Goat Farm executes this mission through an unconventional for-profit model and does not operate on public funding, donations or grants.
