Swanton Pacific Ranch is a 3,200 acre property comprised of majestic redwood forests, lush riverine ecosystems and expansive coastal grassland that overlook the Pacific Ocean.

Swanton Pacific Ranch was donated to Cal Poly Corporation by Al Smith and is managed by the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences.

Educational opportunities and research projects are pursued year-round by faculty, graduate students, undergraduates, other universities and industry professionals.

The diverse landscape includes forests, rangelands, crops and a prominent watershed, offer a unique setting for Learn by Doing that emphasizes environmental awareness and sustainable land management practices.
