The San Francisco Muslim Community Center was founded in 1978 by African American Muslims who identified with the leadership of Imam W. Deen Mohammed (America's Imam), whose scriptural insights brought great clarity to those seeking to apply the teachings of Al-Islam to chart their course within American society.

In 1981 the SFMCC incorporated as a non-profit 501(c)(3) religious corporation, exclusively for religious purposes which include educational and social services addressing the comprehensive needs of its Muslim constituents in the San Francisco Bay Area, and to the serve the needs of humanity at large when it is feasible and within the scope of our mission.

The Muslim population in San Francisco has been constantly in flux. Our initial service focused on the African American practitioners of Islam but expanded to include the diverse Muslim population of San Francisco including Arabs, Africans, Pakistanis, indigenous converts including Europeans, Latinos, and many other too numerous to detail in this pamphlet. We have officiated over 150 marriages. Hundreds of converts and reverts to Islam have learned the fundamentals of our faith, through classes and studies which enable adherents to have a functional knowledge and application of the requisite of Islamic social and ethical behavior as well as spiritual duties such as bearing witness to Allah, prayers, fasting, charity, and pilgrimage.

The SFMCC rented its former location for approximately 31 years while actively seeking more accommodating property acquisition to better service the needs of a vibrant and growing congregation. To host our services and special programs we rented community centers, public halls and religious conference center to conduct seminars and conferences to educate our public as well as the interfaith community and general public.

In 2006 the SFMCC purchased a rental property (5 bedroom house) which we intend to use to leverage our equity towards purchase of this new property. We have an interested buyer who seeking in funding for the purchase.

The property we now have site control of and are currently utilizing as our Masjid is zoned for schools, Public Assembly as well as commercial restaurants as long as they are not fast food. Thanks to Allah we have overcome hurdles while keeping faith and not despairing of Allah's blessings on our humble efforts. We need a dignified place of worship in this part of San Francisco which in close proximity to San Francisco State University and San Francisco City College.

We ask in the Allah's name for your generosity and support in this endeavor. If you require more information please contact: Abu Qadir Al-Amin, Imam SFMCC, aqaintl@aol.com, (415)424-8793, or Darrel Abdul Rahman, Tresurer, rahman2@pacbell.net (415)748-1521
