This Church was started in 1951 in the North Beach district of San Francisco as the "Italian Assembly of God."

In 1956 the church moved to 908 Cortland Avenue in the Bernal Heights district of San Francisco and then changed the name in 1959 to "Community Assembly of God of San Francisco."

In 1972 Rev. & Mrs. Edward A. Stewart became the pastors, and soon after they began their ministry the Church began to flourish.

The Church quickly outgrew the space at 908 Cortland Avenue so the property (formerly the Star Market) at 1819 San Jose Avenue was purchased and remodeled in 1977. Again the sanctuary was soon filled to capacity and plans were made to find a larger facility to meet the needs of a growing ministry.

When the availability of the property at 355 Ocean Avenue (formerly the Brentwood Market) was brought to their attention, it was realized that the Church would probably never again have an opportunity to own such a large building with an adjacent parking lot at a major intersection of San Francisco. In response to God's divine direction, the congregation stepped out by faith and embarked upon another building project. After much sacrifice and labor, the new building at 355 Ocean Avenue opened for worship in August, 1989. Since then, many various ministries have been established and the church continues to reach out to the neighborhood with the life-changing Gospel of Jesus Christ.

We are a sovereign church which is a part of the General Council of the Assemblies of God. The website of the Northern California/Nevada District of the Assemblies of God is http://agncn.org/index.php/aboutus/whatwebelieve/what_we_believe.

We believe . . .
. . . the Bible is the inspired and only infallible and authoritative written Word of God.
. . . there is only one God, eternally existent in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost.
. . . in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in his miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, in His personal future return to this earth in power and glory to rule a thousand years.
. . . in the blessed hope - the rapture of the Church at Christ's coming.
. . . the only means of being cleansed from sin is through repentance and faith in the precious blood of Christ.
. . . regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential for personal savlation.
. . . in water baptism by immersion.
. . . the redemptive work of Christ on the cross provides healing of the human body in answer to believing prayer.
. . . the baptism in the Holy Spirit, according to Acts. 2:4, is given to believers who ask for it.
. . . in the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a holy life.
. . . in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost, the one to everlasting life and the other to everlasting damnation.
