Roseland Cottage (1846) is perhaps the finest remaining example of a country estate in the Gothic Revival style. This National Historic Landmark, summer home to prosperous anti-slavery advocate and publisher Henry C. Bowen and his family, has survived virtually unchanged with its original Gothic furniture, embossed Lincrusta-Walton wall coverings, and coral-pink exterior. The museum complex includes a formal parterre garden, an icehouse, garden house, carriage barn, and the nation’s oldest surviving indoor bowling alley.
