Rebecca D. Harris - artist 1.33

Since owning my own body in 1977 I have both struggled and savoured navigating myself through how it perceives and is perceived. From puberty, weight gain, pregnancy, weight loss and gain again, it has been interesting roaming these experiences and how they influence my work. In the last few years, I have become further obsessed with how I can use it not only as the subject of my work, but also as a tool in perceiving the work. Much of what I make is with textiles, using their familiar and tactile qualities to explore these things I talk about. Where textiles are used to conceal the body, I use them to reveal. I also have a dashing of drawings here and there, sometimes I even embroider my drawings (which takes days btw!).
