What does the Charitable Foundation do?
• It raises funds through various appeals as well as providing support and encouragement for NHS staff and members of the general public in efforts at fundraising.
• It receives donations, legacies and grants for the benefit of the NHS Trust.
• It supervises implementation of donor’s wishes through efficient management of all these funds which also generates additional income.
All funds are disbursed throughout the Trust in accordance with the donor’s wishes. This is supervised by the Foundation Board advised by four groups; one each for items of medical equipment, training and education, patient and staff support, research and development. Each group is chaired by one of the trustees with co-opted input as appropriate from members of the Trust and University staff. The Foundation is accountable to the Charities Commission for the efficient performance of these tasks.
Fundraising for wards and clinical specialties continues throughout the year by NHS staff. The Foundation's small fundraising team mounts a wide range of fundraising initiatives throughout the year. Currently the team is concentrating on the following appeals:
The Leeds Children's Hospital Appeal
The Breast Cancer Research Action Group
The Helipad Fire response Team
The Yorkshire Brain Researh Centre
The Yorkshire Cancer Centre Appeal
