Situated on Chestnut Avenue in the heart of Thornton le Dale, Balderson’s Welcome Cafe is a family run business since 1895.

We serve a variety of delicious food and snacks all day long. Pop in before noon for a full English breakfast, or enjoy our large range of main meals and lunches served all day. We provide our customers with fresh, local food; all of our meat used in our cooking is locally sourced from D J Horsley Butchers in Pickering, just a couple of miles from Thornton le Dale.

Whether you indulge in a fresh cream cake or a hot traditional pasty, you can be assured that all our breads, cakes and pastries which we serve in our Cafe and Bakery are made on the premises, to the traditional family recipes which have been passed down from generation to generation.

You can take home some of these delicious treats from our bakery next door, or why not have a browse in our spacious Gift Shop? We stock a large range of gardenware, homeware, jewellery and Thornton le Dale gifts, which are a perfect present to take home from your visit to this pretty village.

Furthermore, our large, sheltered Tea Garden is open all year long, and dogs are always welcome. The Garden offers plenty of room for cyclists to leave their bikes outside, whilst they take a break from the various cycling routes around the Thornton le Dale area.
