Yale-NUS College is hosting the third edition of Yale-NUS Model ASEAN (YMA) 2016 from 12-14 August at the brand new Yale-NUS College Campus.

The first two editions of YMA were a resounding success and we aim to build on this as the third edition promises to be even better as we continue to expand in terms of size and quality. With a larger pool of participants both internationally coupled with intellectually stimulating topics, YMA will definitely allow students to hone their skills of public speaking, reasoning and develop the unique skill of consensus-building. We are very fortunate to have the academic support of the members of our Advisory Board, who provide invaluable feedback on the topics debated during the conference. This will ensure that the quality of debates continue to be of the highest standards on the most relevant topics. This year members of our Advisory Board include highly distinguished individuals such as Ambassador Ong Keng Yong, the former Secretary-General of ASEAN.

There have been many significant developments in the ASEAN region from the problem of transnational haze to the implementation of the ASEAN Economic Community in December 2015. Therefore, the third edition will feature a total of nine committees such the East Asia Summit which will discuss the problem of economic cooperation in the region and the ASEAN Ministers Meeting on Rural Development and Poverty Eradication which focuses on urban poverty. Delegates will also have the opportunity to learn from experts in the field as there will be an exclusive panel of speakers during the opening ceremony of the conference.

It is on this note, that I highly encourage you to attend YMA 2016 as it is an opportunity not to be missed. You will be able to challenge yourself to tackle the intricacies of Southeast Asian Politics and practice “The ASEAN way” of doing things.
