Nicoll Highway MRT Station is an underground Mass Rapid Transit station on the Circle Line in Kallang, Singapore.Despite the name, the station is located under Republic Avenue, beside the Kallang Basin. However, one of its exits does lead to Nicoll Highway, which the station is named after. Nicoll Highway is a major road that connects the downtown to Kallang.This is the last station before the Circle Line enters into downtown Singapore for trains traveling towards Dhoby Ghaut MRT Station or Marina Bay MRT Station.HistoryNicoll Highway collapseOn April 20, 2004, a section of tunnel being built for the Circle Line collapsed, apparently when a retaining wall used in the tunnel's construction gave way. This occurred near what was to become the Nicoll Highway station on the Circle line, not far from the Merdeka Bridge.The accident left a collapse zone 150 m wide, 100 m long, and 30 m deep. Four workers were killed, with three more injured and one body which was never recovered.
