4 STEP LEARNING PROGRESS
STEP 1
WATER SAFETY & WATER CONFIDENCE
Instilling fun and building the basic foundation of water safety. Followed by awareness of surrounding and confidence building in each student. Every child or adult swimmer progress at different pace according to their level of motivation to learn, past experiences and physical development.
STEP 2
LEARNING THE STROKES
Swimming is not just learning the movement of the stroke. It is a lot to do with feeling of water and balancing one’s body. First learning the movement of the legs (kicks), the arms, the breathing and then putting it all together – this is where the coordination and timing comes in. Swimming does not happen overnight, much practice and repetition is needed, so get down to the pool and start moving!
STEP 3
SURVIVAL
After reaching a certain level of confidence and mastering some important skill set in swim strokes, it will be time to combine it together to test for survival in real life situations. Eg, What should you do if you are too tired but there’s no wall near you? if someone bump into you while swimming in deep water, are you able to stop in the middle without help? These are extremely real situations in all areas around pool or even at the beach.
STEP 4
STROKE CORRECTION & SWIMMING EFFECTIVELY
Knowing how to swim is good, but learning how to swim effectively by maximising every stroke to minimise energy wastage is a bonus! Have you ever wonder how many strokes get you through a single lap of 50m? The lesser the strokes needed per length, the more efficient your swim will be. Consult your coaches on your swim strokes and correct your little bad habits here and there which might have been causing you to swim less effectively.
