Initiative for Peace
Youth connecting youth to build sustainable peace
Initiative for Peace (IFP) was founded in 2001 by students and teachers of the United World College of South East Asia in Singapore. The students are trained for a year in facilitation skills, communication, team building, conflict management and the theoretical aspects of the issues leading to the conflict in the countries they work with. The programme culminates with a week-long conference in the chosen country. It is planned and led entirely by UWCSEA students and 40 youth from the respective country are invited to participate in the conference. IFP has worked with the India-Kashmir-Pakistan conflict (2012), Sri Lanka (2003-2006 and 2013), Timor- Leste (2007- present) . This year three conferences are being planned: Timor-Leste (June 2014, Mae Sot refugee camp in Northern Thailand (June 2014) and Peace Day in Singapore (Sep 2014).
