Details

Bonniers Konsthall is a venue for Swedish and international contemporary art in the centre of Stockholm.

Since the start in 2006, Bonniers Konsthall has exhibited and discussed contemporary art from all over the world. Since earlier this year Bonniers Konsthall offers free admission to all exhibitions, which is aligned with a mission to spread and increase knowledge about contemporary art.

At Bonniers Konsthall Swedish and foreign artists are exhibited, both emerging and more established artists. Bonniers Konsthall shows the latest art to a wide public, where generating a dialogue on art serves as the driving force.

Exhibitions range from thematic group exhibitions that want to put the art into a larger cultural context, to solo exhibitions where art works are often made specifically for the exhibition.

All gallery hosts have profound knowledge in contemporary art, most of them also have their own artistic practice. Every day they offer open introductions aiming to provide the visitor with different entry points and perspectives on the exhibition. On weekends, knowledgeable guides and established artists give guided tours. Bonniers Konsthall has an active pedagogical approach, where school tours, workshops and family tours are important parts.

Operating on an international level, Bonniers Konsthall maintains an active dialogue and interchange with other Swedish and international cultural institutions, collaborating on exhibitions, educational programmes, and book publications. Bonniers Konsthall is also involved in more long-term research projects along with other cultural institutions and universities.

The institution has its roots in the Maria Bonnier Dahlin Foundation, which was founded in 1985 by Jeanette Bonnier in memory of her daughter Maria Bonnier Dahlin. Designed by architect Johan Celsing, the glass building in the shape of a flatiron has become a Stockholm landmark. It’s situated right next to the train tracks, a short walk from the central station. Sara Arrhenius has been Director of Bonniers Konsthall since its founding 2005.
