Gujranwala is 6th largest district of the Punjab and is famous for its industry, rich agri-bases economy, having a population of nearly 4.5 million. Gujranwala is a fast growing mega city having established many new educational institutions like Gujranwala Campus of the Punjab University, GIFT University, etc. In 2010 Government of the Punjab approved establishing Gujranwala Medical College, having strength of 100 students every year and its inauguration was held on 17th January, 2011 by the Chief Minister of Punjab. Hostel facility for both Boys & Girls is available in the premises of Gujranwala Medical College, Gujranwala. It is a recognized institute by the Pakistan Medical & Dental Council, Islamabad and present campus Gondalanwala Village, Ali pur Chitta Road, Gujranwala Medical College, Gujranwala. A new campus of Gujranwala Medical College having entire basic sciences departments, offices, residences, staff colony & cafeteria and other necessary infrastructure is under progress. A well equipped IT Lab is available for the Academic Staff & Students. A full functional Library is also available where a series of essential books of famous authors exist. The various societies / forums of students are functioning there like Students Welfare Society, Students Sport Club, Students Literary Society, Islamic Students Forum, Students State Cultural Wing & Students Event Management Society. The play ground for different games is also available in the campus. A large grassy lawn exists in front of Main Building which reflects the natural beauty of the compound. The 472 bedded DHQ Hospital, Gujranwala has been declared as attached teaching hospital where all the major specialties including Medical, Surgical, Pediatrics, Gynecology, Eye, ENT, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Cardiology and Urology, etc, are available at present. The 2nd session of 100 students has been enrolled and 1st Prof (Part-I) has been up-graded in Part-II and its result was leading in all over Punjab in Public Sector Medical Colleges with 98.98% results. Prof. Atiya Mubarak Khalid is the founder Principal of Gujranwala Medical College, Gujranwala and she is continuing her struggle as well as devotion for up-lifting of image of the institute, rigorously & vigorously.
