BRIEF HISTORY OF Forward High School System

Forward High School System is a thriving comprehensive school with a long history of academic excellence and a reputation for providing the highest quality educational opportunities for all its students. The school is supported by a purposeful and dedicated campuses equipped with state of the art technology and other relevant facilities. As the oldest, significant and potential quality Educational Service provider of the city, we understand the importance of looking to the future, taking the very best of new educational and technological developments to create a motivating, learning environment which enables all students to achieve success.

HISTORY:
At the time of formation of Pakistan, the situation in educational institutions—both government owned and missionary ones—was gravely deteriorated in Peshawar. These institutions were chiefly staffed and operated by non-Muslims; the majority of whom migrated to India. This dearth of professionals harmed the education. Moreover, the educational institutions run by non-Muslims were completely shut-down that aggravated the educational crisis. Despite continuous struggle, the government felt handicapped to manage this gigantic task as it lacked resources. At this critical hour, the Government required the assistance of zealous people who could share its burden.
Under these circumstances, Mr. Shafi Sabir couldn’t stop from devoting himself to the noble cause of education. He, therefore, stepped forward, took the lead, and setup a small center of education in his private residence at Muhallah Jogan Shah in Peshawar city. This was the foundation of “Forward School and College” and first step towards private education in the city. The response by masses towards this center of quality education was overwhelming. Soon his residence proved insufficient to cater to the massive influx of students.
Hence in the year 1950, he shifted his educational setup to a spacious building outside Asamai Gate (the current building). This shift gave momentum to its function and it started to provide those facilities which the people were eagerly awaiting. As the name “Forward School and College” implies, this institution functioned both as a school and college. This was the need of hour. During daytime, it managed to start classes from primary up to Matriculation for Girls. The same facilities were extended to the boys in the evening. Given the educational requirements of that time, the College had set up an “Oriental Section” that offered Degrees in ‘Honors in Pashto’, ‘Honors in Persian’, ‘Honors in Punjabi’ and ‘Honors in Urdu.’ This was something missing from the state run educational institutions. Thus, it appealed to the hearts of people especially the service personnel who were desirous of upgrading their academic qualification since quite long. Besides, there were the departments of ‘Commercial Section’ and ‘Education for Adults’ that aimed at equipping the people with any qualification be it ‘Short Hand’ or ‘Type-Writing’. The department of ‘Education for Adults’ was particularly for those people who could not obtain education at all. Here they were imparted the basic education and were consequently promoted to next classes depending on the interest they manifested towards their studies.
What puts Mr. Shafi Sabir at edge over others in this field is that he dedicated himself and his services to the welfare of people and not for reaping any financial benefits. He had set up this institution solely for the poor people, who though had deep and eager desire for education but could not secure admission in schools and colleges because they were gripped in the clutches of abject poverty.
Throughout, the motto “Education for All” remained his mission and still his educational institutions are being run on the same lines and with the same spirit. His noble mission compounded with sincere dedication and tireless efforts soon led to the rapid progress of Forward School and College. The school that undertook its journey from a small private residence soon grew rapidly into numerous branches of Schools and Colleges throughout Peshawar in main City, Hayatabad, Charsadda Road, Saeedabad and Dalazak Road.
Established on most modern lines and enshrining the key philosophy of “Forward”, Forward High School aims at providing its pupils top quality education. At Forward High School, we believe in innovation and activity based learning. The School possesses a history rich in educational background compounded with the vision, experience and farsightedness of its Founder Principal and all those who succeeded him. Being serving the noble cause of education for more than half a century, we distinctively sense the need of hour and demand of the outer world and then accordingly shape our institution’s educational policy that could help best our students when they are exposed to the challenges of real life.

In accordance to the first revelation of Holy Quran which asks mankind to ‘seek knowledge’ and the subsequent sayings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), we emphasize on ‘Knowledge’ and ‘Education’ not Grades and Marks since we believe in the mighty power of knowledge. We are aware of the fact that only true and proper knowledge can assist our students in their career pursuits. This has brought distinction for our students while prestige for our institution at the same time.

Our marvelous academic results reflect our excellent standard of education and manifest the worthy efforts of our highly capable faculty members. Undoubtedly, this is coupled by the hard work and dedication of our students. Our students are our invaluable asset and future of the nation.
