HISTORY OF THE INDUSTRY
In the mid 90s there was resurgence in the family KTV industry in Manila due to the advent of computerization. Personnel operated laser disc karaoke systems soon gave way to automated computerized systems. Computerization gave rise to the high end karaoke establishments we know today.

High end KTV’s that wish to retain the high quality audio/video of laser discs have switched to computerized systems. Establishments today that use MIDI based machines have been relegated to the low cost market due to MIDI’s poor sound quality and lack of features. This gap in technology has branded computerized Family KTV’s as being high end/expensive and MIDI/laser disc establishments as low end/affordable alternatives. Today, we see a very big disparity between “high end” and “low end” establishments in terms of their quality and corresponding price.
