Volunteering is an essential and vital part of ensuring our communities and the people they consist of thrive as volunteers provide services, events and programmes to benefit the community at no cost.
Core Functions of a Volunteer Center;
- Honour the Treaty of Waitangi
- Facilitate community connections.
- Promote and advocate for the interests of volunteers
- Provide information on volunteering opportunities.
- Work with organisations to develop volunteer opportunities.
- Work with organisations to develop and maintain standards.
- Promote the management of volunteers as a profession.

Volunteering:
- Benefits the organisation, project and the common good.
- Not to be linked to the receipt of benefits; financial or the equivalent.
- Respects the rights and expectations of others.
- Must not be a prerequisite to paid work.
- Can be an end in itself.
- Must always be free of coercion.
- Not for profit activity.
