Nelson Repertory Theatre's home is at the Theatre Royal in Rutherford Street, Nelson; the oldest wooden working theatre in the Southern Hemisphere. Nelson Repertory Theatre was formed in October 1934, and in 1944 become an incorporated society and purchased the Theatre Royal. The Theatre Royal is a very special place. Even when it is empty with dust motes dancing in the shaft of a single spotlight, you can stand on the stage and sense the echoes of a century of laughter, music and drama. Nelson Repertory Theatre strives to continue this link between theatre and community - live performance has the ability to connect people and to connect with people.
