Studying music in the Department of Arts, Culture and Media at the University of Groningen offers a firm grounding in a variety of facets of the music world from the internationalization of Western classical music to the globalization of popular music genres through processes of mediation, critical interpretation and collective performance practices. Over three years, the bachelors program provides a foundation in the most relevant and innovative music methodologies alongside musicological understandings of music's aesthetic properties. Students examine local music scenes as well as the international implications of a consolidated music industry and the recent and varied applications of digitalization, new distribution patterns and social media.
