Rally Marrakech Sahara 3.84

The British Moroccan Society and its work:
In 2015 the BMS celebrated its 40th anniversary. Created to develop the economic, touristic, cultural and educational links between the 2 kingdoms, it has constantly increased its support to charitable projects, through the support of its individual members and the creation of fundraising events.

Eight years ago, committee members organized the ascension of Toubkal, the highest mountain in North Africa, raising £10 000 and enabling the creation of the first Learning Centre in the Berber village of Talataste, 90mn away from Marrakech. This centre has been a resounding success with 1 teacher teaching Arabic writing and reading to 5 year olds as well as women and the other teacher using the centre to teach computer skills and organize activities such as theatre. The Centre is fully funded by the BMS.

The BMS is now helping 5 other centres with Association Assafou pour le development ( Agounsane, Ouarialt, Ait Hakim, Tiziwadu, Marigha), another centre in Amjgag near M’Goun by the Draa Valley, another one in the North of thecountry : Dar Lil-Kul Farrah.

There are many more Moroccan charities we help (see website www.britishmoroccansociety.org ), in particular in Tangier where the J Paul Getty Junior Charitable trust has been very generous. We have started an ambition project (SHOOF) to educate teachers for the blind and partially sighted.

Morocco is a fascinating country, extremely hospitable where a lot of progress has been made to educate children and women. However it is still lagging behind where education is concerned, in particular in its mountainous and desertic regions.

This is why the BMS is creating this new fund raising opportunity, the Rally Marrakech Sahara, a car rally in the magnificent South East region of Morocco, where mountains and dunes alternate, where camels and Bedouins roam freely, where you will be living an amazing adventure.
