Introduction to Montessori Method
As the name suggests, Montessori Method is developed by Italian physician and educationist Dr. Maria Montessori. Dr. Montessori’s method is based on scientific observations of children from birth to adulthood. She put the child at the center of the education, not the teacher. This method has succeeded in diverse cultural settings throughout the world over the last 100 years.
It is a view of the child as one who is naturally eager for knowledge and capable of initiating learning in a supportive, thoughtfully prepared learning environment. It is an approach that values the human spirit and the development of the whole child—physical, social, emotional, and cognitive.
