It was an open seat during the period. In the 2006 state assembly elections,Rahul Ghosh of CPI(M) won the Baruipur assembly seat defeating his nearest rival Arup Bhadra of Trinamool Congress. Contests in most years were multi cornered but only winners and runners are being mentioned.
