Abyasa Vidyala,The school provides education in a stress free environment with no bag load till 5th class. Projects, outings, songs, dramas, meeting people from various fields, creative mornings and many other activities are part of leaning. In the beginning we didn’t realize how uphill the task would be. We had students coming from poor families. The children had hardly an environment and resources that fostered growth at home. We also faced an educational environment in the city (that included parents) that was marks centered and actually hostile towards a real growth of the child.

Soon we understood and broadened our vision. What we were and are facing even now is a battle for a better world. The field of education was no different from any other field where mediocrity reigns.
We drew up a plan of an activities based education system, sought the help of notable educationists who were also in the same battle running alternative schools.

These fourteen years have been a tremendous learning process – deep, enriching, joyful. We are proud to say that we have brought smiles, cheer and unbounded energy in our school children. They have grown independent, are eager to learn and enthusiastic. Above all they are free beings, with a mind of their own.

But the task was and still is extremely demanding and difficult. Firstly, we have parental pressures for marks and rote memorization, it is very difficult to convince parents yet we have to do it on a daily basis. We have to make our point and fight for the child’s rights.

Secondly, many parents do not pay fees and to run activities based school without any financial help is very difficult. Thirdly, many parents have genuine reasons for not paying fees due to rising prices. It pains us to see and pressurize the parents. This is the reason why we have made education free of cost from this year.

Free education also gives us freedom. This is extremely important. We cannot make an impact without freedom. Many a times due to lack of freedom and parental pressure, we have to compromise to some extent. Free education would give us a free hand and help us to fully implement our educational vision.
Another thing we have realized is that he must not work in our own school alone. All our materials that we have prepared are extremely useful for other schools. From this year we have also decided to provide free consultancy to schools across the country and especially near Vijayawada. We want to start educational campaign.

We also want to have a publications division where we regularly come out with pamphlets, books and CD’s that would be of enormous help not just for schools providing free education, but for any school.
