Whitethorns Montessori School has been providing pre-school education for 3-5 year olds for almost 20 years. Founded in 1995 by Laura O' Brien (Montessori Diploma Advanced), we are affiliated to the St. Nicholas Montessori Society of Ireland, the Health Service Executive and the Department of Health and Children.

We are very centrally located on the main Dooradoyle road, close to the Mid- Western Regional Hospital. We offer a beautifully prepared indoor environment tailored to the needs of the pre-school child. We also have a wonderful, large and safe garden and outdoor play area which allows the young child the freedom to play, explore and learn about nature in the natural environment.

At Whitethorns Montessori we offer a wide and varied curriculum in a multi-cultural setting, with the usual subjects including English, Irish, Maths, Science, History, Geography, Computers, Cooking, Gardening, Music & Dance, Speech & Drama. At Whitethorns we take full advantage
of the Period of Develoment that the child is at and at age three to four he is a the right time to absorb and learn language. Of course, English is
our spoken language and we will always support and encourage the child's first language which is spoken at home. We give the children a little taste
our our own national language which is Irish and which they will encounter in Primary School. Chinese is another language that we introduce them to by way of songs and rhymes. Our thinking is that it is
the language of the future and if we give them an ear for it now than hopefully it might help them in the future, if they wish take it up . This year we have incorporated Yoga classes into our daily routine which has proven successful in the personal development of the child. As an Artist and Teacher, Laura promotes Art and Crafts as a positive way of learning and the development of the fine motor skills. The encouragement of creativity in the child is a huge part of our curriculum.

At Whitethorns Montessori each child is treated as an individual and our aim is to help the child to reach his or her full potential in a loving and caring environment. Good manners, a respect for others, the environment, and themselves is encouraged at all times. Our curriculum
in run in conjunction with Siolta and Aistear programmes and this promotes the development of self-esteem, well-being and belonging, exploring and thinking and communications in the young child. In short
the child is encouraged and helped to reach his/her full potential.

We offer two sessions a day, Monday to Friday.
Morning Session: 9am-12pm
Afternoon Session: 12.30pm-15.30pm
