The Mallow-Tralee railway line runs from Mallow to Killarney and Tralee. Intermediate stations are Banteer, Millstreet, Rathmore, and Farranfore

The line opened in stages between 1853 and 1859.
The first part from Mallow to Millstreet opened on 06.04.1853 followed by the section from Millstreet to Freemount with that stretch opening on 25.05.1853.
That was followed by Freemount to Killarney opening on 15.07.1853 and finally expanded from Killarnery To Tralee opening on 18.07.1859

A peculiar arrangement at Killarney is in place, in which trains from Mallow enter Killarney, which is a dead-end. Trains continuing to Tralee, then have to reverse until they reach the junction, before changing direction again to continue westwards.

History
At Tralee there were small sidings that formed an informal link to the Tralee and Dingle Light Railway, and by reversing into the goods yard at Tralee, the line to Fenit could be used.

The line once continued through to Limerick. There were also branches to Valentia Harbour railway station, Kenmare, Kanturk, Castleisland, however these closed during the 1960s.

Rail Air Link[
This line is connected with Kerry International Airport at Farranfore which is a direct rail air link in Ireland.
