Habitat for Humanity - Zambia 2012- NUIG 1.97

In June 2012, a team of 15 volunteers from NUI Galway will travel to Zambia as part of the Global Village Programme with the international charity Habitat for Humanity. We are currently in the process of fundraising approximately €45,000 to build simple, decent and affordable homes in partnership with the local community in Zambia. Last year a group of student volunteers undertook a similar project in Bangladesh.

The team will work alongside local people to construct several houses during a 2-3 week build. Habitat for Humanity builds houses with the families that will live in them, and not just for them. Labour is given free of charge, and families pay a small mortgage on the materials so that other families can be helped in a similar way.
