The eye examination is very detailed, with a top of the range fundus camera. The camera takes photographs of the retina, which is the back surface of the eye. The retina has the smallest blood vessels in the body, so any diabetic or blood pressure changes can show up here. It can also show cataracts, AMD, glaucoma and other eye diseases.
In all eye conditions early detection is vital, to prevent losing sight.
The eye exam is normally covered by Social Welfare, Medical card or VHI.
