Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center (MDMC) established as a response towards big earthquake disaster in Yogyakarta on 2006. It was initially formed as an ad-hoc team to overcomes the problems after the big earthquake occurred at 05:54 local time on 27 May with a moment magnitude of 6.4. Most of the area in Yogyakarta Province, where the Central Board of Muhammadiyah located, were destroyed by the natural disaster. Many buildings, houses, and schools broken that caused thousands death, injured, and financial loses. (*need to get the valid data)
After the series of project on the Yogyakarta earthquake, the ad-hoc team then worked with other organizations in Muhammadiyah bodies to take disaster responses in some other natural disasters such as volcano eruptions, flood, etc. It then encourage Muhammadiyah to reaffirm the team into official organization under Muhammadiyah Central Board namely Lembaga Penanggulangan Bencana which then more well-known as Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center (MDMC).
Inspired by the wide network of Muhammadiyah throughout Indonesia, as well as many areas in Indonesia enlisted as potential area for disasters, MDMC is formed to overcome the impacts, educate the communities, and prevent future damage may cause. With the spirit of humanity and Islamic values, MDMC committed to always create disaster countermeasure programs and disaster mitigation that have responsive and professional actions under the regulation of Muhammadiyah.
On the third decade of MDMC, we are positive to create significant improvement and capacities of this organization, and ultimately Muhammadiyah as the largest Islamic organization in Indonesia.
