The Space

This is one of the oldest houses in Hydra. Built during the second half of the 18th century, it stands on a low hill overlooking the sea and the back side of the town. Constructed entirely with stones, thick walls and high wooden ceilings, it is a perfect example of the traditional Greek baronial home that stands the test of time. Its location is particularly advantageous because although it is situated in a quiet area, it is only a few minutes walk from Kamini beach. The nearest food store and local restaurants/tavernas are also within a very short walking distance.

This two story house is spacious, functional and most importantly cool during the summer months; the trees and plants which are in the garden and throughout the entire property offer lots of shade and render all outdoor spaces very agreeable. Although the house is traditional, it is fitted with all modern facilities, thus providing ease and comfort throughout the duration of the guests' stay.

This exquisite, well preserved house is the perfect place for those in search of the tranquility and rare beauty that the island of Hydra offers.

Guest Access

On the ground floor there is a fully equipped, wonderful rustic kitchen where guests will find everything they need, a bathroom/WC, a dining room, a day room and two double bedrooms. The master bedroom overlooks the garden while the other has direct access to the back yard, which is perfect for breakfast, lunch or simply for enjoying the sun. Adjacent to the bathroom is a storeroom, where guests will find and have access to a washing machine and a freezer.

The top floor consists of a spacious sitting room, an attic and two large terraces that offer majestic views of the sea and the mountains.

The day room and attic can easily accommodate a person each, so in total the house can sleep six.
Additional amenities (email hidden) and DVD player, an outdoor shower, and broadband internet.

Guests will receive a complimentary six pack of still water upon arrival as well as a bottle of local wine or some other traditional delicacy of their choice. This will be arranged once a booking is made.

Guests will also enjoy the luscious garden: a serene and magical place to unwind and relax at any time. This traditional, well preserved house is the perfect place for those in search of the tranquility and rare beauty that the island of Hydra offers.

The Neighborhood

Hydra is one of the Saronic Islands of Greece, located in the Aegean Sea between the Saronic Gulf and the Argolic Gulf. It is separated from the Peloponnese by narrow strip of water. In ancient times, the island was known as Hydrea (Υδρέα, derived from the Greek word for "water"), which was a reference to the springs on the island.

The municipality of Hydra consists of the islands Hydra (area 52 km2 (20.1 sq mi)), Dokos (pop. 18, area 13.5 km2 (5.2 sq mi)) and a few uninhabited islets.

There is one main town, known simply as "Hydra port" (pop. 1,900 in 2011). It consists of a crescent-shaped harbour, around which is centered a strand of restaurants, shops, markets, and galleries that cater to tourists and locals (Hydriots). Steep stone streets lead up and outwards from the harbor area. Most of the local residences, as well as the hostelries on the island are located on these streets. Other small villages or hamlets on the island include Mandraki, Kamini, Vlychos, Palamidas, Episkopi, and Molos.

Hydra benefits from numerous bays and natural harbours, and has a strong maritime culture. The island remains a popular yachting destination, and is the home of the Kamini Yacht Club, an international yacht club based in the port of Kamini.

In 2007, a National Geographic Traveler panel of 522 experts rated Hydra the highest of any Greek Island (ranked 11th out of 111 islands worldwide) as a unique destination preserving its "integrity of place".
Getting around

Hydra depends upon tourism, and Athenians comprise a sizeable segment of its visitors. High speed hydrofoils and catamarans from Piraeus, some 37 nautical miles (69 km) away, serve Hydra. The island also has ferries to Aegina, Poros, Spetses and Porto Heli.

Rubbish trucks are the only motor vehicles on the island, as cars or motorcycles are not allowed by law. Donkeys and water taxis provide public transportation. The inhabited area, however, is so compact that most people walk everywhere

House rules

Guests should treat the house with the care and respect that it deserves. No parties, no noise and no smoking in the bedrooms. Smoking in other indoor and outdoor areas is acceptable so long as guests don't leave cigarette buts lying around.
