Mirapolis was a theme park located in Courdimanche (Val-d'Oise, France). The attractions were based on the French literature (novels and fables), and more globally on the French culture.Mirapolis was opened in 1987. Spanning 47ha, the park was described as being ‘France's first large amusement park’. It suffered from diverse issues, like other contemporary parks, such as or. Mirapolis eventually closed permanently in 1991, and was mostly demolished since then.HistoryDevelopmentMirapolis was originally the idea of the architect Anne Fourcade, and it was made possible by Sodex Parc and the, which set up the financial arrangement for the main investor, the Saudi businessman Ghaith Pharaon.Inspired by the big amusement parks of the time, such as Disneyland, Mirapolis would be one of the first French theme parks, and its themes would be the tales and the great novels of France. The park would dominated by a huge statue of Gargantua, inside which a dark ride attraction would be installed.BeginningsMirapolis was inaugurated on 20 May 1987 by the Prime minister of the time, Jacques Chirac. It included 29 attractions, 3.000 restaurant seats, 13 stores, 12 food kiosks; and it was able to welcome 28.000 visitors a day. The park was split into 8 themed areas.In 1988, the famous singer Carlos becomes sponsor of the park.
