John McByrne opened its doors in 1998 and has since been feeding the local population a steady diet of Great Guinness, Friendly Chat & Underground Irish Music. Playing only the best Jigs, Reels & Hornpipes from some of the lesser-known artists of the Emerald Isle & beyond, the music policy is strictly Traditional giving a new meaning to the term “Old-School”. The resident DJs are constantly digging from Crook Haven to Ballyhillin in order to bring you forgotten classics and previously un-heard material but are also not averse to dropping the odd well-known track into their playlist to keep the kids happy.

John McByrne also boasts an internationally renowned “Spoon Academy” where some of the finest spoon players learnt their craft. Keep an eye on the bar and you'll occasionally see some of the most recent disciples knocking out a beat or two in between serving customers.
