Our Society's story began in our humble beginnings 2 years ago in a healing circle of women. This circle, a first in the community, was the coming together of and Elder, an Outreach Worker and a group of amazing women. It was a project that was created out of need ~ creating a safe space for women to gather together for support and to learn about abuse.

During our 2 years together the circle became more than a learning circle, it became a true and honest sharing circle. We shared our stories, spoke our truths and revealed our secrets. We broke down barriers and learned to trust. We discovered the resiliency within ourselves in sharing our stories with each other. We released our pain in tears. We shared our laughter, our hearts and a lot of hugs. We smudged together, prayed together, participated in ceremonies and we made many offerings.

Together we started to dream.

The women started talking about the needs of their communities. How they would like to share this opportunity of healing with others. The need to have services that encompasses the deep holistic healing that only their Culture can reveal to them. They wished that men and youth could have access to a circle and share in the same opportunities that they were experiencing.

It was during this time together our Elder (Theresa Strawberry) shared a vision she received of a Healing Lodge in the shape of a Turtle. It was decided, by this circle, that the first step in achieving the vision of a Healing Lodge would be to create a non-profit society. Through a combined effort of thoughts, prayers and actions Kis Sai Wah Toe Tat Towin Society was created and came into being in the month that celebrates love in all it's forms ~ February 2013.

In the Cree language Kis Sai Wah Toe Tat Towin means "Coming Together to take care of one and other in humbleness and wellness."

It is with humble, open hearts that we came together and it is with this spirit that we move forward in walking together towards our Vision.

Kis Sai Wah Toe Tat Towin Society is guided by the Traditional concepts of respect and sharing that form the foundation of the aboriginal way of life and that are built around the 7 Teachings.

We honour these teachings as our guiding principles of our Society, always reminding us to choose principles over personalities, the good of the many over the need of the individual.
