1. Vision, Mission, Core Values & Objectives of IMT-Sirajganj

1.1 Vision
To become a center of excellence in quality education and training of maritime affairs that provides highly skilled workforce responsive to the demands of global market.
To become a regional model of excellence for providing technical training- introducing training courses on different traits maritime affairs- and contribute to the socio-economic development of this region. It will be an excellent institution that serves the citizens in a multiplicity of useful ways.
To provide employment to the unemployed youths through skill development training according to the needs of growing shipbuilding industries both at home and abroad.
1.2 Mission
To produce skilled manpower in order to meet the demands in the inland water transport sector, shipbuilding industry and maintenance sector.
To promote our promising shipbuilding industry, providing world class training on ship design and construction.
To provide productive employment to the population through technical training, alleviate poverty, and contribute to the socio-economic growth of this region as well as to the whole country.

To develop a Comprehensive Maritime Education System for nation and produce skilled maritime manpower for both national and global needs.
To maintain continuous supply of highly skilled professionals to our shipbuilding industry, providing quality education and training on ship design and construction.
To make a window for the extension and outreach programs by which IMT-Sirajganj will maintain collaboration with international maritime community in terms of maritime education and training.
To maintain continuous development of programs and course contents to cope up with the changes in marine technology and meet industrial trends.
To provide productive employment, imparting vocational and technical training on different trades for local youth, and promote self-reliance.
2. Introduction of IMT- Sirajganj
Institute of Marine Technology, Sirajganj (IMT-Sirajganj) is a state supported institute that offers four-year diploma and degree programs, including a Diploma in Engineering- Shipbuilding Technology and a Diploma in Engineering- Marine Technology. IMT- Sirajganj is also intended to support four different types of trade courses on different traits of marine engineering. Institute of Marine Technology, Sirajganj (IMT- Sirajganj) is one of the six government-owned training institutes to offer degrees on maritime affairs. It is controlled by the Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) under the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.
2.1 Background
This institute was established with other four new marine institutes under the project “Establishment of Five (05) Institute of Marine Technology (IMT) at Munshiganj, Faridpur, Chandpur, Sirajganj, and Bagerhat”, undertaken by the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment in 2010. The project was taken with the objective of creating skilled marine manpower for meeting domestic as well as foreign demand in maritime manpower. Four similar institutes at Sirajganj, Munshiganj, Chandpur and Bagerhat are being established under the project. IMT- Sirajganj was inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in 2014. According to the project, training courses on six different traits of marine technology are to be imparted to the trainees at IMT- Sirajganj. These courses are diploma in marine engineering, diesel engine mechanics, shipbuilding welding, electrical, machine tools operation/mechanical fitter, and computer operation with auto cad. IMT- Sirajganj has been established to develop skilled manpower in the inland water transport and shipbuilding sector. Its specific objectives are to provide employment to the unemployed youths through skill development training according to the requirement of growing shipbuilding industries both at home and abroad.
2.2 About BMET
The Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) was established in 1976 under the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment by the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh to facilitate the creation of a skilled labor force for both domestic and international market. BMET is responsible for the planning and implementation of strategies for this purpose. The Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) works to facilitate the employment of Bangladeshi workers through training institutions and by working with foreign employers and Recruiting Agents. BMET processes the foreign demands for the recruitment of employees while simultaneously controlling and regulating emigration clearance for overseas employment. BMET works to provide institution based vocational and technical training in a variety of employable trades including apprenticeship training. It also implements self-employment programs and conducts informal, formal and special training courses. It is responsible for collecting and disseminating labor market information to optimize employment potential both domestically and internationally. In addition, the bureau works to ensure the welfare of Bangladeshi workers abroad.
