Andy has for the last 30 years been working as a building surveyor in Western Australian Local Government. During this time he has been responsible for all the implementation of Council’s building control functions in the position of Manager. After 22 years of working in a number of Perth Councils, Andy relocated to the Pilbara taking up the position of Manager Building Services with the Town of Port Hedland in 2006. In late 2010 Andy relocated to Karratha taking up the position of Manager Building Services for the now City of Karratha. In April 2012 the introduction of new state building legislation deregulated the certification of plan and building assessment of the building approval process. Certification for building permit application is now able to be carried out by a privately registered building surveyor / certifier. After such a long time spent in Local Government and seeing the need to provide the specialised skills and knowledge needed for the certification of buildings in the Pilbara’s cyclonic region, Andy took the opportunity to set up a private practice that is capable of delivering these services. Being locally based and regionally focused, Andy is now able to respond quickly to clients’ needs in this specialised area of construction. So far, this has resulted in a growing client base ranging from large mining companies, government agencies, local and Perth based builders to residential home owners who undertake construction in the Pilbara.
