Hilary Holmes Makeup has always been an avenue of empowerment and the vehicle I have chosen to connect with others. The journey to this pretty epic discovery comes off the back of so much hard work, lead by my passion for makeup, knowing the magic it can bring.

My makeup journey didn’t start out like most. I wasn’t that 4 year old girl that stole her mum’s makeup bag, instead you would find me knee deep in mud on our farm or jumping from the garage roof onto the trampoline with my siblings. My makeup journey started when I was in year 12 on the back of my horrible self confidence.

Makeup came into my life as a way of empowerment. After years and years of being bullied for being overweight and not fitting in, I turned to makeup. Firstly, as a way to help me feel to fit in but slowly I began to see it as the total opposite- as a way to stand out! At the start I would just put on a little bronzer but by the end of the year for my graduation I wore a bright pink eye look. It looked amazing! And even better – I felt amazing.

A few years on I had completed my science degree and landed an incredible job straight out of uni. After the novelty wore off and I had been there for a couple of years I was finding it unfulfilling and jarring against my personality. To keep me happy I was doing my friends makeup on the weekends but it wasn’t until the universe stepped in and I was handed a redundancy from my job that I was able to stop and think about what I wanted. I took the redundancy as a giant flashing sign and moved to London where I pursued my passion and was hired instantly by MAC Cosmetics. I worked for MAC both there and in Melbourne for 7 years but I finally took the leap and left them to freelance full time in early 2015.

Since deciding to follow my dreams of becoming a makeup artist, my passion and love for what I do, paired with with years of working really hard I have learnt so much about myself. What started as turning to makeup to empower myself, is now used as a vehicle to empower others.

And through Hilary Holmes Makeup I can’t wait to provide all the incredible women out there with the opportunity to experience something that supports and nurtures them for exactly what they are – amazing, powerful creatures that deserve to feel beautiful.
