AIKIDO
Aikido is a dynamic, flowing Japanese martial art based on harmonising with your opponent's energy and redirecting or neutralising their attack. This enables you to defend yourself without inflicting unnecessary harm.

"Ai - harmony" "Ki - universal spirit or energy" "Do - the way or path" means the way of harmonising the body, the mind and the universal spirit. In this sense, Aikido is a true "budo" where martial training is used as a way to spiritual growth.

The movements and techniques in Aikido are often circular and emphasise a flowing flexibility from a stable centre with the whole body moving as a single unit. The aim is to be in complete control of mind and body while maintaining calmness and alertness.

Being totally aware of and responsible for your training partner and other students around you is a vital aspect of Aikido training. From this, students learn to care about and be responsible for all others around them.

Aikido is also a great way to improve your health and fitness, develop self-confidence and self-discipline and is lots of fun!

AIKIDO SAMFORD
Aikido Samford is a member of AikiKai Australia and is affiliated with the International Aikido Federation, Aikido World Headquarters and Hombu Dojo in Tokyo. We have been teaching adult and children's classes in Samford since 1999, first at the Cedar Creek Hall and now in the Samford Community Centre.

Darren (4th Dan Shidoin -authorised instructor) & RaeMing (3rd Dan Fukoshidoin -assistant instructor) have both been training in Aikido for over 30 years and believe that Aikido is not just a dynamic defensive martial art but a journey in personal growth, self discipline, integrity and respect.

Classes are open to all levels and are always taught with positive energy and in a supportive manner that encourages students to train hard at their own pace.

Children's classes are at 6pm Tuesdays & Thursdays & Adult classes at 7pm on Tuesdays & Thursdays and 7:30am on Saturdays.
