Designed by acclaimed South African architect, Norman Eaton, the theatre is fully equipped to support all fields of performing arts, and is considered one of the most established dance theatres in South Africa.

Over the past 20 years, the theatre has housed many prolific events, including a number of notable charity events. In fact, in 2005, Nelson Mandela visited the theatre for a Mahube HIV/AIDS benefit concert which formed part of his 87th birthday celebrations.

Since January 2011 the Unisa Little Theatre has been mainly involved in the development of a theatre development plan for the historically disadvantaged. This ties in with the National Strategic Transformation Plan for 2015.

Providing amateur dramatic societies from disadvantaged communities with the opportunity to further develop their abilities, the theatre also assists students by employing freelance staff from the Drama and Arts departments of the Tshwane University of Technology, University of Pretoria and various private Performing Arts colleges

Looking for a venue for your show or event? The Little Theatre is open to the public and offers various affordable hiring options.
