Once upon a time there was a beautiful dairy farm, right where you are sitting. It was filled with mellow, happy cows which roamed the hills of this area, frolicking with joy and abandon and producing some of the best milk in the world. Due to the nature of Nature, the area has always been very scenic and attractive. Due to the nature of People, high birth rates, the Anglo Boer War, inherent nomadic tendencies, and yearning for adventure the Nottingham Road area became rather more populated (and lets face it -artists and weirdos have to live somewhere).

Soon the people of earth (and certainly KZN) discovered the concept of “Shopping Centers” and “Security Villages” and the lovely scenic farm was chopped up into smaller sections., the happy cows herded up and sold either to other dairies or in some sad cases - the knackers. Part of the farm was sold to build many quaint cottages. The other part was sold to build the Junction Centre.

Now you think this story is all doom and gloom - but lo - a twist in the plot. As fate would have it, two men - born in the same year - were to move to the mountains and completely change the consciousness of all they met. I can’t begin to describe their rock star temperaments and enigmatic ways - two self proclaimed “Very Bad Men” oozing charm, wit and superior intellects. The children laughed, jumped and drank milkshakes, the men stuffed their faces with massive burgers and the women alternately swooned (from lust and sometimes too much wine) or screamed (mostly expletives and in the parking lot). The very existence of the town became elevated by their presence - those Shining Ones.

And that, my friends, is how the Bistro became the most awesome, unique and epic venue on the Meander.
