Zainie Misbach is a Bokaap local with strong community ties and a passion for preserving the Cape Malay culture. Zainie has over 30 years experience in Cape Malay Cuisine and has been involved in numerous initiatives to show case the Cape Malay culture through food, starting from the very first Cape Malay Restaurant in South Africa (Biesmiellah Restaurant) to the most well renowned Noon Gun Restaurant.

Some of Zainie's accomplishments:
Co-operated family founded restaurant in Bokaap
Started 'Bokaap Bazaar', a homed-based restaurant and gift shop.
Co-Started and managed family owned 'Noon Gun Restaurant'.
Started the 'Bokaap Cooking Tour'.

Chosen to feature in the '2010 Soccer World Cup' television campaign 'I am 2010', in which Zainie showcased the cooking on traditional 'Tomato Bredie'.

Featured on numerous local and international TV programs including:
Pasella, KykNet, Jou Show met Emo, and Wine Route with Bobotie. Zainie was also featured in many international shows, magazines and other print media.

Zainie says: 'I believe there is a need for interactive tourism. So come and meet me and let's cook together!'

The guided walking tour begins at the Bokaap Museum, where we then talk a walk through the masala route and visit a spice shop where Zainie will introduce you to the mysteries of eastern spices and teach you what to shop for. A brief stroll through the historic colourful streets and cobbled roads of Bokaap ends at Zainie's home where a hands-on experience takes place in Zainie's kitchen.

Guests will discover the secrets of mixing masala and learn the traditional way to cook a mouth-watering Cape Malay Curry which you will enjoy in a sit down lunch whilst Zainie entertains you with local recipes and stories of food, culture and life.
