Spring Valley School of Professional Hunting is run by Marilyn and Chappie Scott, who have been involved in the hunting industry for over 30 years.

Courses are run several times a year, teaching all the skills required to become a Professional Hunter.

The course lasts 10 days and includes firearm handing (rifle and shotgun), practical shooting and hunting, skinning, tracking, catering, first aid, theoretical lectures and exams run by Nature conservation. A private game reserve is visited to identify fauna, flora and spoor.

The cost includes food, accommodation, lectures and an animal to shoot and skin.

Additional costs include the recommended textbook, "A practical guide to hunting", hunting licenses, alcoholic beverages, rifle hire and ammunition.

Since the Firearm Control Act of 2000, Chappie and Stacey have also run Firearm Competency courses. These can be completed at the same time as a PH school.

Chappie is a member of PHASA (the Professional Hunters Association of South Africa), IPHA (the International Professional Hunters Association), WRSA (Wildlife Ranching South Africa), SA Hunters and the ECGMA (East Cape Game Management Association).
