Mineral Process Services (MPS) was established with the following goals in mind:

1. To provide cost effective services to the start-up mining sector. The primary focus is to assist exploration companies and junior mining companies in taking their projects from the drilling programme through the various feasibility phases to production.

2. To provide consulting and implementation services to mining companies on the stay-in-business projects. Here the goal is to provide assistance with debottlenecking studies, life extension programmes as well as general small and medium extensions or modifications to enhance plant performance. Again, the services will be provided throughout the various project phases, from initial concept studies to project implementation and commissioning.

MPS has the capability to undertake both greenfields and brownfields projects. MPS prefers to develop our client’s projects on a partnership basis where open communication and goal alignment between the client and MPS is paramount. Being an African based company, our primary market will be those clients with projects on the African continent. We have however undertaken projects outside of Africa.
MPS’s process engineering team, together with our technology partners, has experience in the application of various chemical processes like:
1. Sulphur Melting & Filtration
2. SO2 Production
3. Paper & Pulp Technologies
4. Ion Exchange (IX)
5. Various Environmental Technologies

The experience profile of our process engineers cover the various processing options one would find on the typical mineral processing flow sheet. These include:
1. Crushing & Screening
2. Milling
3. Flotation
4. Leaching
5. Filtration / dewatering
6. Dense Media Separation (DMS)
7. Product storage & handling
8 Associated services and infrastructure

Our process engineering team have implemented projects across a wide range of minerals, most notably:

1. Various industrial mineral applications, including andalusite, bentonite, bauxite, vermiculite, zeolites etc.
2. Base metals applications, mainly in copper and zinc production
3. Ferrous and non-ferrous metals ore beneficiation, including iron ore and manganese
4. Precious metals, with a focus on gold and platinum
5. Mineral sands beneficiation

MPS supports its process engineering capability with the full suite of discipline engineers and designers involved in mineral process plant design, from civil / structural engineering through mechanical and piping as well as electrical and control systems design. A number of our engineers are registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) and can therefore accept complete design responsibility for the work undertaken by MPS.

MPS combines its engineering and design capability with proven project management skills, specifically adapted to the smaller project environment. Our project managers have taken various projects through the typical project life-cycle:

1. Conceptual studies, involving close co-operation with the client’s exploration team
2. Pre-feasibility Studies (PFS)
3. Feasibility studies, including Definitive Feasibility Studies (DFS)
4. Front-end Engineering and Design (FEED) to allow for the compilation of a Control Budget Estimate (CBE) against which the project can be measured and controlled
5. Project implementation and commissioning

MPS utilises internal project control and risk management processes which allows us to undertake projects across the entire suite of contracting options:

1. Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC)
2. Engineering & Supply Services (ESS) thus excluding construction
3. Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management Services (EPCM)
4. Consulting assignments

These contracting options can be undertaken on either a lump sum basis or alternatively on a fully rates and cost reimbursable basis. MPS, being a smaller engineering company, is also flexible enough to consider hybrid strategies for project execution, if the client so wishes.

MPS’s management team has a direct involvement in the organisation. Combining this direct involvement with our streamlined processes and procedures, allows MPS to operate on a low overhead structure. Given that we understand the complexities and challenges associated with start-up enterprises, we have elected to pass the benefit of our low overheads directly to our clients.
