Medalist Sport Cape Town 2.1

"I started Medalist started because I love sport.
With the help of my wonderful, very sporting and competitive girlfriend, Marisa Marais, my gifted and dedicated sporting Son Torin(11) and my hockey playing daughter Leia. (14).
I love everything about sport at all levels.
To start with I was lucky enough to compete in 2 Olympic games for South Africa as well as traveling the world and meeting great friends through sport.
Winning was the goal in many of the sports I did and the medals was the memory and mark of those fleeting moments in history. I still look at some of those medals and remember those moments or events around it, like being in a different country or a specific friend or rival.
After my fencing career of 25 years I grew unfit and after 5 years with encouragement took up road running, trail running and then the Warrior race (in that order). this showed me another just as important side of medals. Sometimes it is far more of an achievement for an athlete to complete an event than the 1st prize winners. The dedication and difficult circumstances for some people give so much meaning to receiving that medal at the end of a race that this should be lauded and should be displayed where it is an inspiration.
Sport brings us friends (just look at my fb profile) I am lucky to count many inspirational and dedicated people as my friends from around the world. Many I see regularly at races.
For Children medalist has a special meaning I believe showing them steady progress and results for their training and participation, I hope to see medalists in as many South African houses as possible."
