Isabel van Rooyen, food fanatic and Chef-Patron, believe that her eatery creates a sense of community over a delicious plate of food, whether it be business people meeting at this unique location for work commitments or a social gathering of friends.

Delectable signature cakes and speciality teas and Italian cappuccino and espresso will fondle the taste buds.

Painstakingly, Isabel restored the conservatory and the walled-in gardens and developed the Meeting Room for high teas, tea tastings and private functions. All furniture, including the “van Gogh chairs” have been specially designed and handcrafted locally for Meade Café.

The conservatory with its huge fireplace, the bistro proper, and the manicured garden, additional seating for clients and guests, are all served by friendly and helpful waitrons that have been specially picked and trained by Isabel.

Meade Café is located in a renovated 18th Century townhouse in George in the Southern Cape. The building has one of the best locations in the city: adjacent to Doneraile square in old town hall precinct and banking district of George.

Like its gastronomic vision, Meade Café’s interior attempts to reflect the encounter between the traditional and the contemporary.

Consequently, the Conservatory in which the restaurant is housed is characterized by simplicity with its crisp, clean and uncluttered lines that reflect the philosophy and sprit of its executive team and creates a welcoming and pleasing atmosphere. The fittings and furnishings complement the room itself: glass and light and handcrafted furniture all add to the atmosphere. With her discreet yet powerful design and her careful selection of furniture, Isabel has managed to add a chick, modern dimension to the classic conservatory and create the perfect backdrop for a ground-breaking, modern avant-garde bistro rooted in a long tradition of fine craftsmanship and quality.
