Laphum'ilanga Transport Services 2.05

Laphum’ilanga – “the rising sun” – represents the dawn of a new era for both the taxi industry and those who live and work in Nelson Mandela Bay.

Laphum’ilanga is a transport services co-operative playing a key role in the delivery of safe, reliable, affordable and accessible public transport to the people of the Bay. We represent the interests of the taxi industry and ensure that they are equipped to deliver to the public transport needs of a world-class city.

The taxi industry carries 75% of Nelson Mandela Bay’s economically active population and is the nucleus of government’s vision for an Integrated Public Transport System (IPTS). We are proud to have played a role in enabling the taxi industry to host and transport visitors to the Bay for the Soccer World Cup 2010 and AFCON 2013.

Laphum’ilanga’s role is to ensure that the taxi industry makes the transition to a formal business sector, delivers effectively to the city’s public transport needs, and benefits from the economic opportunities presented by improved public transport and infrastructure.
