KwaThula has two cottages that can be rented, the main 2 bedroom cottage and a smaller 1 bedroom 'granny flat' called KwaThula Too. Both are located 100m from the beach in the Bekbaai region of Paternoster up on a ridge giving exceptional views of the beach, sea, granite boulders and the Cape Columbine lighthouse.

KwaThula is an airy split-level cottage with skylights overhead and a free-standing wood-burning fireplace on the upper level, with extensive sea and coastal views. Designed by noted architect, Jaco Visser, and built with thick plaster walls and characterful chimneys in the architectural vernacular of traditional Cape West Coast fishermen's cottages, the top level is open plan with lounge, kitchen and dining area flowing together and opening onto two sea-view porches with banks of aluminium and glass doors that fold out and away beneath split-board pitched ceilings with exposed trusses. The larger porch has a braai and small seating area great for sundowners and stargazing. The lower level has traditional reed-thatched ceilings and two en-suite bedrooms with expansive walk-in showers. Each bedroom has its own free-standing wood burning fireplace. Double French doors open from each bedroom onto a small courtyard with seating and a hammock in the shade. A path leads from the cottage through the indigenous garden to a private gate leading toward the beach. With the tight-sealing aluminium windows, skylights and doors and the wood-burning fireplaces, the cottage is fantastic any season and in any weather.

KwaThula Too is an intimate white-washed cottage that is a contemporary interpretation of the traditional village fishermen's cottage. Wheelchair friendly with a wood-burning fireplace, it is charming and private, with its own security system, parking and path to the beach. A clean, simple, serene space with skylights overhead and a wood-burning fireplace in the kitchen. It is wheelchair-friendly, including a roll-in shower with fold-down seat and railings, under-sink clearance and room to manoeuvre throughout. The outside patio and braai (BBQ) area has a lovely sea view and is shaded by indigenous trees. There is a private path to the lower boundary wall of the property which opens through a private gate onto a path through conserved green space that leads down to the beach. One parking space is designated for this cottage.

There is plenty of light, sea air, and tranquility, but no television, wifi or landline telephone.

Paternoster is a charming seaside village with many excellent eating establishments, including Reuben's just a few doors down and Oep ve Koep Bistro known for its hyper-local regional Strandveld cuisine foraged from the land (fynbos) and sea. This cottage is in the Bekbaai area, which is more private and expansive than other sections of the village, and offers its own beach and walking paths. The village is quite small and walkable, but bicycles are available for hire from the petrol station at the entrance to town.
