Kamiesberg Adventures is a specialist Namaqualand tour operator based in Kamieskroon, on the N7, the main arterial route between Cape Town and Namibia / Windhoek. Kamieskroon is some 67kilometers south of Springbok, the main commercial hub of Namaqualand.

Kamiesberg Adventures is primarily focused on rural cultural and eco-friendly tourism with the aim to work closely with local communities in developing sustainable rural tourism within the ambit of Namaqualand, Richtersveld and Bushmanland.Kamiesberg Adventures has a policy of incorporating local tourism potential and intiatives in order to promote tourism in the entire Kamiesberg Uplands region.

“Little” Namaqualand and Bushmanland, the area within which Kamiesberg Adventures operates, is an area of unspoilt beauty characterised by vast open spaces interrupted by intrusive volcanic formations, gneiss domes and outcroppings as well as rolling red sand dunes. These, together with clear blue skies, a fascinating plant life, an austere mountain wilderness and a world-famous kaleidoscope of brilliantly coloured wild flowers carpeting vast areas in springtime, makes Namaqualand a unique eco-adventure holiday destination. Where else in the world will one find the only Mountain Desert and floral kingdom with an excess of 4,000 plant species. Other jewels in the “Little” Namaqualand and Bushmanland crown incorporate a wide variety of bird, insect, reptile and small mammals in specific area’s.

Namaqualand’s greatest wealth of all is its diverse population. Early explorers, adventurers, free hold farmers, missionaries, miners and run away slaves, found the peaceful loving Khoi Khoi group, the Nama living in Namaqualand and along the Gariep or Orange River. The Khoi Khoi group arrived in Namaqualand about 2,000 years ago from northern Botswana and became pastoralists some 400 years ago. To the east (Bushmanland) were the Khoi San peoples, who were hunter-gatherers and had originally inhabited the whole of Namaqualand. With the influx of these various groups and the inter mingling with the local Nama and San people, today we have a Namaqualander rich in culture and history. In the more remote area’s of Namaqualand “Nama” is still spoken, although the Nama language and Afrikaans have been well integrated with many Nama words still being used. Many of Namaqualand’s places of interest, rivers, mountains, farms and towns have Nama names, although modernised. Much of the Namaqualand, Bushmanland and Gariep River’s history has been hidden, but recent research has shed much light on this rich cultural aspect of what is known today as the “Namaqualander”.

Working in an area that is very eco-sensitive, Kamiesberg Adventures believes in responsible travel to natural areas which conserves the environment and sustains the well being of the local people. Kamiesberg Adventures works with small to medium groups of tourists and promotes environmental and cultural awareness among its clients.
