The International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) is a contest for high school students and is the oldest and biggest of all the international science Olympiads. It takes place in a different country every year.
Over 100 countries take part, covering 90% of the world’s population.
South Africa joined the IMO in 1992, and since then our teams have been hosted at the IMO all over the world. In 2014 we repaid the world’s hospitality, when hosted the 55th IMO in Cape Town (3-14 July 2014).
This was the first IMO in Africa.
